The new model year vehicles have officially made their way into the Volkswagen of Springfield showroom, pushing out the previous model year. Right now vehicles are rolling in at low numbers, making it difficult to decide whether you should choose an older model year or get the latest one. Fortunately, we have information on the 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen specs and upgrades to help make research easier.

2016 VW Golf InteriorThe main changes in the 2016 VW Golf SportWagen center on infotainment

Whether it’s worth getting the newest SportWagen or not really depends on how important entertainment is to you while driving. Commuters will almost definitely prefer the 2016 model year, as the MIB II infotainment system is now standard in all trim levels. While other 2016 options will have the smaller screen as standard in base models, this isn’t the case with the SportWagen, and a larger unit isn’t just an issue of size, but both responsiveness and functionality. For whatever reason, the smaller screen found in other models is still a resistive touchscreen, meaning it requires pressure and won’t have swiping and pinch-zooming functions.

Worse, the smaller screens lack App-Connect, which is the name for the host of features that use Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. For many, these features are some of the main draws of the new system, as it makes the touchscreen much more similar to what you’re already accustomed to on your smartphone and brings your favorite apps, including navigation, to the screen. Who doesn’t want that?

The driver assistance package has also been updated to include adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert and parking steering assistant, all for just $1,495.
